About Niobium:
What is Niobium?
Niobium (Nb, atomic number 41 on the periodic table), like titanium is a hypoallergenic reactive metal. A reactive metal is a metal that forms a thin but very stable oxide layer when exposed to high temperatures or an electric current. This is how niobium and titanium can be given the bright coloration they're sometimes known for in body jewelry. A lot of people assume that niobium will be light weight like titanium - untrue! Niobium is actually a little bit heavier than steel!

I have metal allergies, can I wear niobium?
Yes! Many people who have nickel and other metal allergies have had amazing success with niobium jewelry!

How is niobium colored?
Niobium is made black by extreme heat - and left as-is if you chose a matte finish, if you chose shiny black, we give it a very gentle 2nd hand polish. The bright jewel like colors are achieved by anodizing - the jewelry piece is placed in an electrolyte fluid and an electric current causes a stable oxide layer to form. The voltage used determines the color!

Does it fade?
Black niobium, matte and shiny does not fade. Some of the colors will fade over time though - and that generally depends on the person, the ph of their body, sweat etc. Generally speaking, you'll get a LOT of enjoyment out of your colored niobium jewelry!
